Go To Places - the destination management experts have launched a new service for destinations across the UK to enable them to maximise opportunities around locally shot film and TV shows. The new and comprehensive screen tourism programme developed by GTP is split into three phases with destinations able to 'pick and mix' the services they need depending on where they are on their screen tourism journey.
CEO Deirdre Wells OBE comments: "We have seen first hand the huge benefits of screen tourism in the destinations that we manage and so we have a unique perspective on how to help other destinations across the country capitalise on the opportunities from film and TV shows that are shot locally.
"For example, we can help destinations to attract more screen tourists - also known as 'set jetters' - to an area, position destinations to attract more filming and also help local businesses to tap into supply chain opportunities such as becoming a filming location, provide accommodation or on set catering to cast and crew, or audio-visual services.
"The UK has a global reputation for world leading TV and film production and we know that two thirds of visitors to the UK are influenced by locations and landmarks from British made films and TV programmes.* Furthermore, data from the British Film Institute estimated that visitors to the UK spent nearly £600 million on film related screen tourism in 2016. We urge destinations to take full advantage of this huge opportunity."
